About Never Again International
Never Again, an international youth network, was founded at the Institute for International Mediation and conflict Resolution’s 2001 Symposium at The Hague. Never Again, a group of students and young graduates from around the world, created a collaborative international partnership. Never Again aims to alert the international community to both the causes and effects of genocide and facilitate the exchange of ideas between young people - those who have lived through genocide and those who wish to learn from them. Never Again aims to provoke ideas and action for the prevention of future conflict by bringing people together to cross borders.
Never Again has a track record of bringing together young people and experts to provoke creative thinking about peace. In 2004 we organised the main UK commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide with the Imperial War Museum. Last year, we held the Global Youth Conference Against Genocide in Kigali where participants put together a series of recommendations to the UN at the request of one of our speakers, Paul Wolfowitz, president of the World Bank. Most recently, our Rwandan peacebuilding office hosted a visit by American youth to exchange ideas about human rights, the UK chapter has organised a conversaton with Senator General Dallaire in the Houses of Parliament and the New York chaper has organised a major day of discussion about conflict education. We have an extensive network of active clubs across the Great Lakes and chapters in Rwanda, Burundi, the DRC, America, Canada, the UK and China.
Goal
Never Again is a collaborative international network which aims to provoke ideas and action for peace.
Aims and Objectives
- Examine past conflict in order to generate ideas for the prevention of future conflicts.
- Facilitate connectivity, critical thinking and a creative approach to diversity among global youth.
- Encourage global youth connectivity, cooperation and action to create projects for peace.
- Develop Never Again as a global youth network.
How Never Again Works
- Work: Encouraging participating in local and international activities and programs concerning dialogue, peace, and conflict prevention.
- Learn: Knowing the problems and needs of those who are in conflicts or those who have lived through conflicts.
- Educate: Raising awareness among youth about violence, conflicts and peace-related issues.
- Cooperate: Advocating for cooperation in order to extend our help to all those who need it.
Principles
- Never Again is an entirely inclusive organisation and embraces differences of every kind.
- Never Again actively seeks to recruit members that are representative of a range of nationalities, backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations and gender.
- Never Again sees the recognition and acceptance of difference in others to be the mark of our common identity as an organisation; the foundation of our network as well as our methodology.
- Never Again not only accepts and welcomes difference in others, but also works to utilise this difference through encouraging relationships that allow reciprocal learning.
- Never Again encourages engagement in civil society at local, national and international levels. All youth, regardless of background, wealth, literacy or access to technology have the right to a voice in the international community.
