The Never Again fundraising drive

After a highly successful global conference in Kigali, Never Again is blossoming. We have hundreds of ideas for building a more peaceful future, but without full time support we will struggle to make them happen.

The aim for this campaign to kickstart Never Again is to raise, or put in proposals to raise, £30,000. This will ensure we have the secure financial backing to be able to build on the successes of our past with more projects and a more effective network that engages more young people to challenge violent conflict all over the world and build projects for peace.

Past achievements

Never Again is a global youth network which always punches above its weight. In the past few years we have organised:

• A major youth conference bringing youth of the Great Lakes region to Kigali and addressed by the president of the world bank
• The only major British commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the genocide at the Imperial War Museum in London.
• A national competition to empower the youth of Rwanda to confront their history and build reconciliation through essays and art
• Organised the visit of many groups of international students to Rwanda, including participants from Britain, the United States, Japan, Israel, Canada, Sweden the Netherlands and many more.

Future plans

We have a host of plans in the pipeline and more that we don't even have the time to think about. Sexy projects will get funding, but without an office and full time support, we can't even coordinate the proposals.

We would like to organise:

• A national student newspaper for Rwanda, encouraging critical debate and stimulating creativity
• A football tournament, the Peace Cup, open to all young Rwandans regardless of background, which will culminate in a high profile stadium final
• Youth reconciliation and democracy-building projects reaching the whole of Rwanda

We would like to collaborate with:

• Lt. General Dallaire to establish a summer camp in Rwanda and to work with him on projects about youth and conflict prevention
• Professor Theordore Zeldin to organise his Conversations sessions in Rwanda and to introduce his method to Never Again members

These are some of our specific plans for Rwanda, but the office will also help to coordinate the building of our international network which will:

• Spread projects through out the Great Lakes region, providing education on genocide and encouraging cooperation, creativity and tolerance
• Begin to work in other countries in transition, sharing our ideas for peacebuilding and connecting our experiences
• Build a major youth network which will provoke ideas and action for peace
• Create connections and collaborations between people in trouble spots, those who have lived through conflict and those who have not
