From Never Again

1. One option was to have a very Rwanda-centric publication with youth in school and not in school; university students very much involved in production 2. To continue the international model which has Rwandan contributions and from the rest of the membership.

We can think about this in the context of a new project for NAI. The International Committee have been talking about proposals for new projects and how they should be formatted, who will be involved etc. There's never been a proposal written yet so we may want to make this a template.

Heddy: Thought there was to be more evaluation of the pilot project so is a bit confused about the purpose of the meeting

Clare spoke

Heddy suggested talking about taking the good bits forward and having a discussion

What are the most important parts of our mission?

Marian agreed that we shouldn't be too involved internationally but they could be linked

One of the key reasons to pursue the international project is to help develop capacity in Rwanda and see how a national paper may grow independently Heddy agreed, but was afraid that the more we picked up the workload outside, people may get used to that model and people will be used to that as the only project. The idea was born out of seeing the other projects; NA Rwanda's project is very rooted in NA's rationale - where is the international rationale?

Marian: when we first talked about the project we always talked about an international element. The international side is really important. You may be able to talk about issues you can't talk about in the national context. A international youth newspaper could do a lot of the jobs of a national one: promote critical thinking, connectivity in a way that is inclusive as well as innovative. The reality of getting it distributed and translated may not happen straight away but that is something to work towards.

send this to Rwanda

general agreement that this would be a great project, but the capacity needs to be there

  • evaluation of international side
  • getting a solid team together
  • holding Rwanda accountable - how is it going forward?
